Workshop video: LCP under the hood

We will analyze how the browser receives and processes resources from the network, and define Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) as a key metric of rendering performance.

Mentor: Kirill Kuts, Senior Frontend Developer

Workshop video: LCP under the hood

In this workshop, you will build a deep mental model of how the browser works: you will learn how HTML loading, parsing and rendering actually happen, why the browser makes mistakes with resource priorities and how to help it with this.

Language of the event: Ukrainian

You will understand in detail the intricacies of HTTP network protocols, see how LCP is formed and why performance metrics are more about user perception than dry numbers. You will create your own page load life cycle diagram, learn to find "bottlenecks" and optimize sites quickly and effectively.

    As a result, you will:
  • clearly understand how the browser loads and draws a page
  • learn to identify key points of influence on web performance
  • create your own LCP metric and write a script to measure it
  • learn to use DevTools correctly and understand why you should not rely on Lighthouse
  • learn to distinguish between RUM and LAB measurements and collect RUM data to analyze real user experience
  • learn to find typical bottlenecks on real examples and apply proven and effective approaches to eliminate them.

Mentor - Kirill Kuts, Senior Frontend Developer, developer of an analytical platform with 4 billion user metrics per month.

Become a specialist who not only knows, but understands what exactly affects the speed of the site.

Who is this workshop for

Frontend developers (middle+/senior)

  • To deeply understand how their code affects the real loading speed.
  • To learn to diagnose and eliminate complex bottlenecks in their own projects.
  • To be able to convincingly argue technical optimization solutions to the team or customer.

Performance engineers and analysts

  • To form an accurate understanding of browser metrics and real page behavior for users.
  • To learn to qualitatively and quickly find weaknesses in page loading and rendering, making deeper conclusions, than standard tools allow.

Team leads and Tech leads

  • For effective mentoring of the team on web performance issues.
  • To better understand the consequences of technical decisions in the project and their impact on end users.

QA specialists and testers

  • To develop competencies in assessing the performance of web applications.
  • To learn how to analyze performance during the testing phase and clearly communicate issues to developers.
