Workshop: LCP under the bonnet

In this workshop, you will build a deep mental model of how the browser works: you will learn how HTML loading, parsing and rendering actually happen, why the browser makes mistakes with resource priorities and how to help it with this.

You will understand in detail the intricacies of HTTP network protocols, see how LCP is formed and why performance metrics are more about user perception than dry numbers. You will create your own page load life cycle diagram, learn to find "bottlenecks" and optimize sites quickly and effectively.
- As a result, you will:
- clearly understand how the browser loads and draws a page
- learn to identify key points of influence on web performance
- create your own LCP metric and write a script to measure it
- learn to use DevTools correctly and understand why you should not rely on Lighthouse
- learn to distinguish between RUM and LAB measurements and collect RUM data to analyze real user experience
- learn to find typical bottlenecks on real examples and apply proven and effective approaches to eliminate them.
